Mountain played heavy Blues Rock, mainly influenced by the well-known band Cream. Woodstock was only their fourth gig but they played in front of 500,000 people. It was Saturday, August the 16th, 1969, the second day of Woodstock, and about 9:00 pm. __TOC__ == Musicians == * Leslie West - guitar, vocals * Felix Pappalardi - bass, vocals * Norman D. Smart II - drums * Steve Knight - keyboards == Setlist == # Blood of the Sun # Stormy Monday # Theme for an Imaginary Western # Long Red # For Yasgur's Farm # Beside the Sea # Waiting to Take You Away # Dreams of Milk and Honey > Guitar Solo # Southbound Train == Details == Leslie West played a solid performance though he screwed up the lyrics on "Southbound Train". "Blood of the Sun" was their standard opener and it was followed by the Blues standard "Stormy Monday" (at least someone at Woodstock got to play it!). "Theme for an Imaginary Western" was written by Pete Brown and Jack Bruce - lyricist and bassist of Cream - and turned out to be a successful song for Mountain. But no Mountain set would be complete without West's guitar solo which followed right after "Dreams of Milk and Honey". "For Yasgur's Farm" is sometimes also entitled "Who Am I But You and the Sun". Soon after Woodstock, Mountain's drummer Norman Smart (formerly of Barry & the Remains) was replaced by Corky Laing who worked as a roadie for the band. He turned out to be superior to his predecessor. == Availability == A few Mountain songs are available on film outtakes. Official releases: === Audio === * 1971: Woodstock II * 1994: Woodstock - Three Days of Peace and Music * 1972: Live (The Road Goes Ever On) * 2005: Official Bootleg Series, Vol. 7: Woodstock/New Cannan H.S. 1969 * 2009: Woodstock: 40 Years On: Back to Yasgur's Farm * 2019: Woodstock - Back to the Garden === Video === * 1994: Woodstock Diaries === Recording Notes === Though "Blood of the Sun" and "Theme for an Imaginary Western" can be found on Woodstock II and as well on Woodstock - Three Days of Peace and Music it wasn't recorded in Woodstock! At least for the latter song there's a very good soundboard tape available which does originate from Woodstock. Two songs Mountain performed at Woodstock - "Long Red" and "Waiting to Take you Away" - are on the 1972 album Live (The Road Goes Ever On). A song entitled "Southbound Train" later included in the 1994 TV special called Woodstock Diaries is an edited version of the song performed at Woodstock. == Images == <gallery caption="Mountain at Woodstock" widths="150px" heights="150px" perrow="4"> Image:Mountain02.jpg|Leslie West Image:Mountain03.jpg|Mountain Image:Mountain04.jpg|Mountain, view from the stage Image:Mountain05.jpg|Norman D.
